Kep accommodation, ecolodge in Cambodia
How Kep accommodation, ecolodge in Cambodia makes a difference
Environment
In an effort to limit energy consumption, we have banned AC in the hotel. We have a well and we use the water sparingly. We recycle glass, plastic and paper. We use the plant and vegetables waste in compost. We do not use chemical products in the garden so you may wake up to the chirping of birds. When you walk in the garden you can see the fish splashing around in the pools. We teach the staff not to throw out plastic bags. The bus stop is 5 mn walk from the hotel, and we offer pick-ups from the bus stop to the hotel, thus encouraging guests to use public transport when travelling to us. For local trips, we can rent bicycles, small motorbikes or call for a tuk-tuk driver for families.
Community
We employ people from the local area: staff and builders for the building of the houses when they are not busy with the rice crops. We also use fresh products from the local market: vegetables, fruits, fish, prawns, crabs etc... We can organize visits to archeological sites, beauty spots, and trips to rabbit island and the National Park that surrounds the accommodation.
An English teacher comes twice a week for a one hour lesson with our staff. We also teach them French. We have to train them for a long period of time because they have no qualification in hostelry.
We grow organic vegetable and fruits in the garden, and we are promoting the funding of a professional school in the field of mechanics, construction and hostelry for local residents and staff.
