Small group adventure holiday
Typically you will be sharing your experiences with between 4-20 like minded travellers (depending on the trip, operator and how many others are booked on the trip) and you'll have a group leader with you. Whether you are travelling alone or with friends its good value, and a great way to meet new people! While itineraries are pre-planned there is some flexibility and you'll have plenty of privacy. This trip will appeal to travellers of all ages who enjoy meeting new people as well as seeing new places.

How this holiday makes a difference

Environment
Walking involves a slow pace and little impact to the environment. By sticking to well marked paths we lessen the scarring so often seen in fragile mountain areas. We leave nothing on the mountain and take away only memories and snapshots of our brief stay. All of the walks are within 1 hour of the accommodation.

At the farm, everything is grown according to organic principles, composting and recycling are the norm and we try to avoid needless waste: water is heated by solar panels, central heating provided by our own woodland and energy and water consumption monitored regularly.

Community
The holiday is based in the timeless surroundings of the Garfagnana, an area encompassing 4 regional parks. Fiercely guarded by the mountain community, the area is fully protected and walking tours help to educate visitors to the fragile life within the parks. Traditional crops such as chestnut and spelt form the backbone of many local recipes and much of the produce is the result of ancient traditions of rearing livestock and growing produce on a small scale. Local restaurants and refuges benefit from our patronage as do the farms and shops which help supply our ingredients. The local Club Alpino benefits from our support of the refuges they run and the money supports the maintenance of trails and signs.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

There were lots of highlights - the accommodation was lovely and comfortable, set in the hills with a delightful view to rolling hills in the day and twinkling lights in the evening from the town below. The food cooked by Ailsa was delicious and we were provided with gourmet packed lunches for each walk! The walks themselves were lovely, taking us along tracks through old woods of beech and chestnut and arriving at peaks with more outstanding views across the mountains and towards the sea.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

Extend your holiday with a few extra days in Lucca and the environs. This is a very sweet city and deserves time exploring the charming narrow streets on foot or on bicycle with a chance to attend a concert in the evening or just sit in a cafe and people watch.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, and minimized impacts on the environment?

Yes, Jamie and Ailsa were very careful about this, as was our qualified mountain guide Lindsey.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

Very enjoyable and just what I was looking for.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

All the walks were excellent , the most memorable was climbing up Mt. Giovo in very misty weather , however there were also some superb walks in glorious sunshine.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

I stayed for two nights in Lucca before and one night in Pisa afterwards- it made a perfect start and finish to a wonderful walking holiday.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, and minimized impacts on the environment?

Yes. The farm has been superbly restored - both the buildings and the land. The food, which was excellent, was mostly from the farm.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

One of the most enjoyable walking holidays I have been on. Jaimie and Ailsa were friendly and welcoming and the guiding on the walks was excellent
