How this holiday makes a difference

Environment
During low season we turn off our generator when our guests do activities at the beaches or Menjangan Island, and we always inform our guests of this. We always inform our guests of the water condition at the resort during our check-in procedure. We have a limited water supply since we import our water from the mainland with a pipe system. We share water with the National Park office and use water for the shower and the kitchen only. We use recycled paper for any office enquiry. We use an EM system with a septic tank we provided. The waste water is recycled so we can use it for our garden. We do not use any chemical products to clean rooms.

We support coral conservation. Before the resort was set-up at Tanjung Kotal peninsula, along 7 kilometers of the shore coral was broken and some fishermen used to come with dynamite and poison. We invited a person who knew about coral to advise us and we started a conservation project to make a coral come back. Action has been taken including putting the coconut leaf in the rock, and slowly we have seen results. We maintain the coral and do not allow fishing in that area. After five years we can now see that the coral is growing well and many fish have come back. Now our guests can do snorkeling and enjoyed the coral. To keep the coral healthy our staff have a program to remove starfish from this area as we know that starfish is an enemy of the coral.

We are working together with National Park officer to train our staff about code of conduct in the National Park, we have a monthly training program and also we are working together with WWF for coral conservation. We inform our guests of the code of conduct in the National park which lets them know what they can do and what not to do during their stay here. We also provide a booklet with any detailed information about the National Park in the rooms.

Community
The resort is committed to increasing the standard living of local people. 100% of our workers are from nearest village. The accommodation is a boutique resort with a Balinese concept. Most of our furniture is from wood with Balinese architecture we purchased from Denpasar and a local art worker. Any food including fish, chicken and any kind of vegetables we purchase are from the local market. We advise guests to visit the local village where they can buy some art work or souvenirs made from Coconut.

We are committed to working closely with the nearest village, we support some children who study at Elementary School. We give scholarships for some of the children and we continue this program until they finish their studies. We started this in 2000. We also donate towards building some temples in the area.

Accommodation Reviews

We invite every traveller who books a holiday via us to send in a review. Because we don't run the holidays they're completely independent and unedited... remember to read between the lines though, as two people on the same holiday can have different views!
