How this holiday makes a difference

We hire local people. All of our staff are local to the area. They fulfil all functions of the hotel and we spend time training and preparing them for the jobs at hand. All of our maintenance and construction work is done by locals. We use local products (bamboo, pottery, paintings, etc). We use bamboo for ceiling design, tables and chairs. Paintings and pottery are used to decorate the villa suites. The bamboo comes from St. Vincent and the paintings were done on Bequia as well as some of the pottery. We do have African, Indian, and Aboriginal art works as well.

Local purchasing policy. Firstly all that we buy for provisioning for the guests is bought locally. We offer special fruit frappes with sour sop, mango, papaya and pineapple from the local environment. We have measures to encourage guests to spend locally for food and gifts. We tell the guests where to shop and where to go to get great local gifts and direct them how to get there.

We build sea-walls to avoid beach erosion. We maintain our beach everyday. We rake seaweed and continually place more rocks to upkeep the natural seawall and the rock breaker that we installed. This lessens the impact of any waves. We also refrain from cutting down trees, instead we build around them. We donate all turtle eggs found on our beach to the Turtle Sanctuary. We have written information about turtles that is available to the guests in the office. We have also brought the fisheries department in after a turtle hatching to measure and document the event. We have signs alerting the guests if they see any turtles to immediately report it to the office and stay clear from them.

As we live on Tortola most of the time we support our local association of St. Vincent and the Grenadines through fund raisers, contributions, etc. We also give donations to churches and hospitals of money, beds and toys for children. We use energy efficient light bulbs and timed outlets that shut off at certain times. Our detergent and bags are biodegradable. We encourage guests to take buses. All of our water is collected in large cisterns for use with the garden, showers, and toilets. The guests are instructed to reuse their towels if they so desire. If not to place them on the floor for housekeeping to change. We use animal manure and encourage biological control in our garden.document.write('') Convert currencies
