Responsible travel: Crete self catering accommodation, Greece
We have recycle bins in our neighborhood and expect our guests to comply with the recycling here and keeping garbage contained at all times . We ask our guests to take their garbage with them or find trash bins when they are out in the villages or at the beaches to keep them clean and beautiful ! When going to the beaches we even take extra bags to pick other trash that is laying around or was left behind.
We have several animals on the property which we would appreciate our guests to be extra kind and loving to them! There are also many stray animals on the island and if you have any leftovers they would deeply appreciate it :-) Our guests when they stay with us will see beautiful butterflies, birds, goats and sheep in the villages. During the raining season , we have many snails crawling about and it is very easy to crush them while walking so please be careful!
We have solar panels for heating our water all year round , energy saving light bulbs everywhere and a water saving toilet.
We have a local family-run grocery store that I encourage all my guests to use for their initial food supplies and to buy as much as they can Greek products ! We have private city buses that I encourage guests to use also that run in front of the house weekdays twice a day. There are other buses in the city where the guests can travel to all the major sites .
We have several local favorite restaurants we can recommend for dining out or take-outs too . We suggest our guests to buy local olive oil , herbs and Cretan honey ! When our guests arrive we supply them with our own olive oil , our own wine and olive oil soap that is made from our own olive oil. We take our guests to the weekly local farmer's market where there is ample supply of fresh fruit and vegetables at great prices ! There you can also find wonderful wild mountain herbs for teas and better health :-)
The story of the provider of Crete self catering accommodation, Greece
I am an American who has lived on the island for 15 years now . It would be my pleasure to assist you in all your excursions and help you experience the real Crete , all of her ancient mysteries and natural beauty . In the summer ( about 6 months long ) of course we have the pristine beaches everywhere you look , fall and winter we have the making of wine , raki ( or moonshine ) and the harvesting for olive oil through out the villages . There are over 6,000 villages to explore on the island and each unique in their own special way .
