How this holiday makes a difference

Environment
More than 90% of the water used in the property is ground water, from wells in the property. This water is used and is treated in septic tanks and soak-pits and then returns to the water table. We do not have bath tubs and we use toilet flushes which can be turned of mid way. Our laundry is done by a local laundry, hand washed and dried in the sun. We change sheets and towels whenever a guest requests them to be changed. We only use a bio eco cleaning product, manufactured in Goa for all our cleaning in the toilets and kitchen. No harsh chemicals. No pesticides are used in the Coconut plantation.

This property is unique and host to marine turtles, otters that breed in the bank of the creek, monitor lizards, tortoises, wild hare, and a resident pair of the rare and magnificent White Bellied Sea Eagle with a seven-foot wingspan.

We protect all wildlife in the property. We are actively involved in protecting marine turtles and rehabilitate marine turtles which have been injured in fishing nets. All our waste food is treated and used to feed local livestock. All our plastic, glass and metal waste is recycled.

Community
We support the local Church and Church School by donating prizes for fundraising. We have in the past given refrigerators, television sets and computers as prizes.

We take care of medical expenses whenever the senior citizens of the village community around us can't afford to do so. We pay for their hospital and medical bills. We encourage our guests to visit local places of interest and also local restaurants. We have a book written by us explaining to guests about the local community and where to go. We have a fleet of cars which have been bought by members of the local village which are used for transportation of all our guests. We have provided loans to the owners of these cars in order to start operations.

99% of our staff is local, trained by us and come from the surrounding villages. We buy locally grown vegetables, fish and meat. All our building, maintenance and conservation is done by locally hired people.

The very purpose of our existence is to keep this piece of land the way God made it and protect everything on it. We will protect it from mass tourism and encourage like-minded people on the property. We are committed to educating the local community about things of historical significance which will only appreciate with the passing of time.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

Crossing the footbridge over to Eleswhere and being transported to paradise was simply the most amazing experience! The staff at Eleswhere could not have been more friendly, or helpful and welcoming! Waking up every morning in such a beautiful place was so wonderful, it was peaceful and relaxing and we could not have had a more enjoyable time.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

Don't go with any expectations to see Goa, or to get out and about having adventures - the most wonderful thing about Elewhere is that the accommodation is beautiful and comfortable, and the scenery is stunning, it the most glorious place to just relax in Paradise and if you try to do too much you'll burn out and not be able to really enjoy the brilliance of doing nothing, which is the best part of being somewhere so glorious!

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, and minimized impacts on the environment?

Definitely. All the staff at Elsewhere are from Goa, that not only seems beneficial to the local economy but it's beneficial to all the guests because you have a network of local knowledge at your finger tips! The accommodation is nestled along the beach and creek, surrounded by wildlife and plants, which means the whole area is almost a nature reserve protecting the area from the impacts of normal tourism which could be damaging.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

10/10 - I cannot think of a single negative thing to say, even something constructive! It's the most gorgeous place for the most terrific holiday and I would go back tomorrow!
