Strict environmental practices such as replacing all bulbs with energy saving bulbs, Card key control installation to all A/C units in all rooms, Using waste water from the Sewage Treatment Plant to water the garden, Reduction of the use of plastic, Composting all garden waste, Minimising the use of aerosols and using natural air fresheners (Flowers and essential oils), Using environmentally friendly and non-hazardous chemicals have been put in place and all staff have undergone training programmes to ensure that they understand the values of such practices.

Community
This Sigiriya hotel is actively involved in the development of the local community. Environmental clean up programmes have been organised and successfully carried out, an excursion (Village Walk) has been specifically developed to involve the community, The hotel hires four-wheel drive vehicles from the community for use on the elephant safari and also purchases produce such as eggs, vegetables and bread from them. The hotel has also been involved in conducting/sponsoring English language classes, Home Economics classes and HIV training programmes for the community.
Students from neighbouring areas have been trained on energy conservation and minimising use of plastic. This Sigiriya hotel has taken many steps to enhance and promote health and eco-consciousness such as providing clearly marked, heart-healthy alternatives at buffets, Serving vegetables, fruits and eggs purchased from the village, Using vegetables which are produced in its own organic garden and not serving any meats of any protected species.
