Gambia bush camp accommodation
How this holiday makes a difference
Environment
We have tried to make the bush camp as eco-friendly as possible, using tented accommodation, environmentally-friendly water management and solar-powered energy. We use organic gardening techniques. The grey water from washing up, showers and clothes washes are used to water the plants. Toilets are composting long drops so water is not used to flush.
We have created ponds on the site to encourage wildlife especially bird life to visit. We have tried to minimise the impact that we have made upon the local environment by creating a bush camp around the forest rather than chopping down trees.
We are a low-energy camp, having installed solar panels for the camp's lighting. We use natural gas for cooking.
Community
During the season we employ people from the surrounding area and buy produce from the local market and local businesses. The activities we recommend are operated by local guides and businesses. Payments are made directly to them, not us.
