Our hostel is located in Graηa one of the most traditional neighborhoods in Lisbon, and inside a unique and exquisite palace from the 17th century, such a cosy hostel.
We recycle and recycle all we can. We re-cycle glass, plastic and paper and encourage guests to do the same.
We have reduced the flow of water in our taps to a minimum, so there is no water waste.
All our lamps are energy-saver.
We use rechargeable batteries whenever possible
We use organic / biodegradable products and allways use both sides of the paper, recycle as much as possible :)
We have install ceiling fans instead of air conditioning units to keep rooms comfortable in warm weather.
Always turn off the lights when we are not using them.
We keep windows and doors closed properly to avoid the loss of heat in winter.
Open the windows in summer. The cross breeze will often keep you cool and flushes out stale air.

First of all we find the positive aspects in our community and share them with other people and guests.
We try to support our community purchasing as much as we can from locally owned businesses and small food poducers and avoid any big corporation owned chain stores. We try to be as sustainable as possible.
We encourage our guests to shop locally, eat in local restaurants, to partake in the local cultural activities, like fado music, and walk around our neighborhood.
We try to ensure that all of our guests are suitably equipped with as much information and knowledge as possible for day trips out. When they arrive we offer guests a map, pointing out the essential for an enjoyable stay.
The special dinners with friends and the cozy atmosfere around common areas. Whenever possible vegetarians dishes.
We have many brochures and local tourist infomation to help with this and can reccomend local suppliers for all our guests needs.
We want our guests to feel part of our family as well as part of our community.
Besides all, we portuguese people are very kind and every time welcome foreign tourists with the best we have to offer.
At Johnies Place you will enjoy Lisbon not just as one more tourist but as a longtime neighbor.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

Public transport is excellent

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Not really!

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

Good but very disappointed that our agreed transfer from airport to hostel was cancelled on day of travel :-(

Read the operator's response here:

We are very sorry for this disappointment. We had a problem with the car the day before and in the moment we knew that was impossible to use it we've informed the guests by email and they answer this email as a confirmation of reception. :-/ This was one day before of arrival. Not in the day of travel. And we've explained the way to get here easily.

Of course we try all the time for this things not to happen but it doesn't depends on us. A car it's a machine. We've tried to found another car but it was impossible because it was saturday...Sorry for this!
