!. Wildlife: Yes, we have wildlife. Many deer, raccoon, porcupines, and turkeys live in our woods and valley and we do our best not to hit them when driving down the road. Daily we see squirrels, chipmunks, and birds in our yard. 2. Waste: We free the land, sea and waterways from rubbish and pollution. We reuse or recycle all paper, glass, and metal. We compost yard clippings and some food materials. We walk along the road by our house and pick up items that have been discarded by people driving by. We encourage the local government to enforce policies concerning junk in people's yards. Water: Our water come from a deep well, which we keep maintained. All water is filtered to take out any impurities. We keep the creek that runs through our woods free of debris from fallen trees. 4. Energy: We reduce our energy as much as possible by turning off lights when not in use, and turning down our thermostat at night. 5. Buildings: Our home was built sometime in the 1890's. The restoration that we have done, has been to stay in the original style of the house.
1. Friends & Neighbors: We are life long residents of our community. We know where to find all things local and we support/ recommend our guests to visit neighbors who have local businesses. On our road there is a greenhouse /fruit stand that has locally grown fruits and vegetables in the summer months, and a store with antiques and gifts of practical value that is open most weekends. In the hamlet of Brooktondale, three and a half miles from us, there is a country store with a deli that offers great tasting food for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and they sell several local organic products such as dairy, meats, and cheese. 2. Campaigning for change: We support the local town board and the work they do keeping the Six Mile Creek clean. 3. Volunteering & charity: We sponsor the local food pantry and volunteer there several hours every week, distributing food twice a month for those who need it most. 4. A fair deal: When we need work done on our home, property, or motor home, we hire local labor and businesses to do the work.
