Description from the accommodation owner
Algarve organic farm eco resort near Lagos, Portugal: the story of this holiday company
Our Eco Resort, is incorporated in Quinta Vale da Lama, an ecological 43ha farm that is been developed since 2008, with the purpose of regenerating soils and restoring the traditions of a small family farm. The resort was opened to the public in 2013 to give the customers an ecological and farm experience.
The main vision was to create a place for all ages and backgrounds, where people can explore ways of living light on Earth, working with it, and not against it. A place that regenerates not only the land, but also people that are willing to make a change.

Producing all that we need to sustain ourselves, even while regenerating our natural resource base for future generations, is the essence of sustainable farm ecology.
The house was designed from ground-up with ecological values in mind, and its passive energy and water conserving qualities are quite good. Insulation, doors, windows and shade structures have been selected to maximize those qualities, and ecological support systems make best use of appropriate technologies, including: water heat by solar thermic and biomass, rainwater harvesting & storage for irrigation, natural sewage treatment, and grid-connected photovoltaic array.
We recycle some of our garbage and compost the organic waste.
We make our own soaps and cleaning products.
Recently the farm adopted the strategy of Planned Grazing (per the Holistic Management framework prescribed by the Savory Institute) which involves pasturing animals in a very dynamic and sequential way - running a small herd of sheep just ahead of the chickens, in this case - to maintain grasslands in the way that mother nature does, enjoying a superior quality of production (eggs and meat) as a by-product.
Home-base for these animals is a space that is shared with vineyard and winery, tree nursery, fig orchard and food-forest.
Every year we plant many new trees and keep developing our food forest.
Our project hosts the 20 year old Not for Profit Association (Projecto Novas Descobertas), who runs summer camps and other outdoor education activities for children / youth / families and elderly, including local schools and community ( 10 minutes from the city of Lagos ) with environmental programs based focused on sustainability and environmental education and hosts many volunteers who come to learn with us how to improve our soils and systems, while experiencing life in community.
The all farm project is based on the Permaculture ethics and principles (Earth Care, People Care and Fair Share) and has adopted the Community Supported Agriculture to serve its customers with fresh organic products.
We produce our own vegetables and eggs and buy localy what we don΄t have.
Our workers are all portuguese including some from the local community.
In the farm we have developed many "Open Days" events to host the local community, such as the "Pizza Nights", music performances, farm tours, crafts circles and others.
