Responsible tourism: Colorado inn and winery, USA
Our vineyards are run organically, with no use of chemicals throughout the growing and production process. The 54 acres on which the Inn sits has a Vineyard, creek, dry arroyos, native grass pastures, sagebrush, as well as Pinion, Juniper and Cottonwood Trees, all of which serve as habitat for deer; elk, turkey, pheasant, eagles and many small birds and mammals.
We want to offer our guests a chance to reconnect with nature in organic and secluded surroundings rich in natural beauty and native wildlife. We're an hour away from any major highways and our skies are free from light pollution, meaning you can enjoy nights stargazing from the hot tub with a glass of North Folk Valley wine!
Many of the activities on offer have a minimal impact on the environment, from hiking and biking to enjoying local foods and wines that have created zero or minimal food miles. We also make skin care products as a by-product of the winery as well as local honey. There are so many places things to learn and places to explore and we provide ourselves on offering a natural and authentic experience of Colorado to our guests.
There are around 16 wineries in our local area and we've formed a 'creative coaltion', where each business lends a hand in recommending and promoting other wineries to their visitors. Agritourism is very popular in the region and it not only benefits the environment but sustains local communities too.
Everything here is local! Meat, cheese, vegetables and everything else is all sourced within 30 miles. We offer visitors an authentic experience and an insight into the way local people live here, and a holiday with us means you can meet the wine grower and the wine maker, and sample the fruits of our labour!
There are lots of other places nearby which you can visit if you've rented a car, and WesternColorado.org tells people all about life on 'our side of the divide' and promotes different locations and attractions with a focus on the area's communities. There are lots of local people who run activities, from wine tasting with us here in Hotchkiss to snowshoeing in nearby ski villages and wildlife viewing in some of the most serene and unspoiled areas of Colorado. We're more than happy to give suggestions and help you get the most out of your trip!
