Responsible tourism: Dubvrovnik countryside villa in Croatia
The villa as well as the whole property is refurbished using exclusively local natural materials, such as stones and wood. Older parts of the villa were rebuilt and constructed using recycled materials only.
The house provides pure water from its 100 year old wells which is used to water gardens, plants and vegetable crops. All leaves, plants and the rest of organic foods are recycled to compost and reused in our fields.
Natural Geo thermal energy is found on our property and used for cooling purposes e.g. Wines, water, vegetables and fruits. A secret we are proud of.
As we use many wild plants and herbs for ingredients in our local food, we also help sustain the habitat of these plants. Our region is rich with various aromatic herbs such as: sage, mint, bay leaves, rosemary, wild onions, chicory, wild asparagus, etc.
We encourage all our guests and visitors to use bicycles, walk and hike.
Our property and family are active members of the local Agritoursim association which regularly promote this rural area and provide development for projects in the region. Our goals are to develop this rural area for special interest travel and sustainable tourism. In the last period of 4-5 years we successfully organised different annual manifestations and organised the creation of hiking paths and biking trails throughout the region.
The association regularly involves itself in charity and community volunteering with special activities for children and the local population. Every year we organise a campaign for cleaning the protected area of the river "Ljuta", where protected river turtles live. This is very important because our property and the northern region of Konavle belongs to the Natura 2000, an EU wide network of nature protected areas.
Our family significantly contributes to the association and local community. Cooperation with all our neighbours is very important. We exchange our seasonal products or purchase local food e.g cheese, meat from farms in our neighbourhood.
