How this holiday makes a difference

The whole purpose for the establishment of this wildlife reserve is to demonstrate that it is economically justified and possible to turn the clock back and recover from the unintentional sins of the past.It is certain that we will make mistakes but it is equally certain that we are making great strides in the drive to recover from our predecessor's mistakes. Ours is not an emotional appeal to "save the environment" that makes us feel good, but an action-driven conservation effort where real people are doing their bit and where guests are an important element if success is to be achieved. We don't want their charity.

We want them to leave knowing that they not only had a wonderful holiday, but that their visit has helped the environment we all love.

Our employees and their families are benefiting from our project, and as we become more and more successful, not only will we be employing more local people, but perhaps the sown seed of environmental reclamation will proliferate to the benefit of all.

This is a great place for a short break, or as an add-on to a longer African tour. The owner is South African, his wife is Australian, and the staff are either from nearby or just up the road in Zimbabwe. I soon became friends with them, and plan to keep in touch.

The tented accomodation is great - like a chalet with canvas walls in the bedroom area; loads of hot water in the en-suite bathroom, plenty of wardrobe space, wonderfully comfortable beds, great view from the deck over the waterhole. The food is bought (or caught) locally, (herbs grown in their garden) and cooked by Lucas who has a fantastically light hand with the pastry.

This reserve provides a great opportunity to learn about the setting up and management of a park, as well as very close sightings of cheetah. Excellent bush-walks and game drives, with loads of stuff for birders.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

Walking with Bubbles (female cheetah) as she chirruped and purred her way through the bush.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

This is not a 'big-5' place - much more cosy than that!

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, and minimized impacts on the environment?

Definitely; staff are local people, the park is being brought back from an overgrazed cattle ranch to a re-habilitaion area for cheetah, with lots of re-introduced game.

4. Any other comments?

Definitely down for a re-visit.

Day tour/Attraction Reviews

We invite every traveller who books a holiday via us to send in a review. Because we don't run the holidays they're completely independent and unedited... remember to read between the lines though, as two people on the same holiday can have different views!
