From concept to completion we have followed the principles of ecological building design and construction, use of renewable energy resources, ethical business practice, supporting the local economy, promotion and protection of the surrounding countryside and minimising waste by recycling
The design of the building offers luxurious simplicity and successfully combines traditional practicality with technical innovation. The frame of the building is constructed of local Douglas Fir and insulated with British sheep’s wool. The external walls are homegrown Larch and the internal walls are lined with reedboard and then limeplastered. The floors are finished in native Ash.
Almost all building materials, labour, furnishings and finishings have been sourced locally. Environmentally friendly paints, natural wood finishes, organic fabrics, towels and bed linen and natural dyes and pigments have been used to create a healthy and chemical-free living space. Many furnishings are recycled or reclaimed materials e.g. the kitchen work surfaces are made from yoghurt pots. We buy through a local shopping service and an organic/local produce shop.
Solar energy provides hot water and the cabin is heated by a wood pellet stove. Used widely in Canada and Europe wood pellet stoves are at the forefront of clean convenient eco-technology and this is one of the first to be fitted in the UK. The cabin is connected to the national grid via renewable electricity supplier Good Energy and all appliances and lighting have been chosen for their energy efficiency. All recyclable materials (glass, tins and plastics) are collected and there is a worm assisted composting system for biodegradable waste.

We invite every traveller who books a holiday via us to send in a review. Because we don't run the holidays they're completely independent and unedited... remember to read between the lines though, as two people on the same holiday can have different views!
