All construction work of the hotel was carried out by local residents and maximised the use of local building materials. We have an operational workforce all comprised of local residents ( 5 full time staff and 6 part time/seasonal ). We subcontract services to local providers i.e. boats and boatmen, trucks and local taxis.
We maximise the use of local products in our restaurant purchases i.e. fish, meat, vegetables etc. We encourage guests to visit local sustainable/appropriate initiatives thus funnel funds in these directions. Our Venezuela beach hotel was desined to maximise energy efficiency. Most of our AC units are 5000 btu in the place of what would normally be 12000 btu units.
To reduce energy consumption we do not provide hot water. Our main water tank was located to obtain a passive solar gain thus preheating the water supply a few degrees to attain an acceptable comfort level. We minimise the use of toxic materials in our buildings and construction where possible. i.e. minimise use of bleach as a cleaning agent and experiment with other appropriate options such as vinegar. We encourage guests to use towels and sheets for 2 days to minimise washing and detergent use.
Our gardens were designed to create habitats for local wildlife whilst using materials available on site. Wildlife corridors help keeps the local wildlife in balance. We discourage the purchase of products/items that are known to be a direct/indirect detriment to wildlife or environment i.e. lobster out of season, fish that has been spear-gunned, necklaces made from coral, game meat or live wild animals that has been poached from the park. We also support local initiatives to obtain a sustainable income from their smallholdings. i.e. the creation of bird tables as to attract birds and birdwatchers so thus produce win/win financial/environmental solutions.

We invite every traveller who books a holiday via us to send in a review. Because we don't run the holidays they're completely independent and unedited... remember to read between the lines though, as two people on the same holiday can have different views!
