How this holiday makes a difference

We are committed to educating the public regarding the benefits of local, organically produced food. We do this through the direct selling of a range of home produced vegetables at farmers markets whilst our beef and lamb is sold through a local Shropshire co-operative. Guests are able to harvest organic vegetables from the adjacent garden.

We actively promote local attractions for guests to visit that support local jobs and maintain the social elements of the local community. At the Shropshire self catering cottage, we provide compost bins for all household and garden waste and the use of water butts for washing dirty wellies and watering the garden! Sustainable, eco friendly literature is available for perusal along with a range of board games and a solar powered, wind-up radio. Sorry, there is no television!

The Shropshire self catering cottage has been restored using only local labour and craftsmen and traditional materials to include re-use of the original flagstones, local ash and alder wood flooring, the roof insulated with sheep’s wool and walls finished with lime plastering. It is fuelled using renewable energy sources including a wind turbine to provide electricity, solar hot water panels and a wood burner to heat the cottage.

Our environmental ethics are followed on a farm scale. We are situated within an Environmentally Sensitive Area of Shropshire, a scheme that we have been actively involved in for 15 years. It ensures that the precious habitats on the farm are protected and maintained through measures such as reduced stocking rates to allow plants to flower and hedgerow restoration to ensure their place in the local landscape for future generations. We use traditional breeds of livestock, including Highland and Hereford cattle and Hebridean sheep to graze the range of semi-natural habitats on our farm. These breeds are well suited to the land.

Accommodation Reviews

We invite every traveller who books a holiday via us to send in a review. Because we don't run the holidays they're completely independent and unedited... remember to read between the lines though, as two people on the same holiday can have different views!
