Our teleheating system uses local leaves and wood as fuel. It is very convenient, it gives work to a minimum of one person, wood rangers do not have to transport the results of wood cutting which costs less and provides more benefits. Most of the staff is local, most of the products used on the premises are local and we use local services such as builders/electricians/plumbers for the maintenance of the property.
We have created an ecolabel by which we have saved 2000m3 of water, €4000 of electricity, and we only use ecolabel soap that has less environment impact.
We minimise energy use by using energy efficient light bulbs and appliances and by turning off lights and appliances when not in use.
We collect rain water for use in the garden, we have reduced the pression of water at the taps, we have put flush reducer on the taps and some half flush reducer toilets, we have educated our employees on how to reduce the use of water. Everywhere in the hotel there are warnings and instructions about saving water and electricity.
We have strict policies on the use of pesticides and fertilisers indoors or outdoors. We support local conservation projects such as Gift to Nature/Woodland trust. We support the creation of the regional park of the mountain and we are a public info point of ecomuseum. We use recycled paper for the office and with the use of computers and the net, we reduce the use of paper and printings as much as possible. We give our guests leaflets and information about the conservation of the natural environment and encourage them to use public transport.
We educate our staff and our guests about the local environment, and we are currently providing a wood fuelled heating centre for the local village (teleheating system). We promote the saving of energy and water as well as the use of collective transport and the sourcing of local produce.
We finance the local association for inhabitants, the so called pro loco san momme', contribute the first aid local area association called croce verde piteccio, the sport association football for joung children A.J.pistoiese and the tennis club pistoia san momme'.
We provide support to young musicians to performe their concerts of classic music in san momme' and pistoia every week.
We also support an Italian association helping to find a home for orphans from eastern European countries.
We also encourage our guests to visit local attractions, eat in local restaurants and buy local produce. We also encourage our guests to use public transport or local services.
We invite every traveller who books a holiday via us to send in a review. Because we don't run the holidays they're completely independent and unedited... remember to read between the lines though, as two people on the same holiday can have different views!
