Self guided walking holiday in Turkey
How this holiday makes a difference
Environment
This walking holiday offers you the opportunity to stay in the heart of a beautiful Turkish village in an old stone cottage. The cottage has been restored using locally produced, recyclable materials to blend in with the village architecture.
We recycle our waste to make compost and help feed the chickens. We keep chickens and ducks for free range eggs and meat. We encourage bird life in the garden and have bird boxes. We leave some areas uncut to preserve wild flowers. We also recycle our waste into glass, burnable and organic to make compost for the garden and encourage our guests to do so. We use energy saving light bulbs and turn off all electrical appliances to save energy.
We are lucky to have a mountain stream running through the garden which we take care to keep clean. We have natural spring water and solar panels for heating the showers in both of the bathrooms. We use home made olive oil soap in the guest rooms. We try and promote the local culture and discourage inappropriate development and are in contact with tour operators that respect the environment.
Community
The cottage was converted using local craftsmen which benefits the community financially. The village carpenter also made some of the furniture. You will be able to get to know the friendly local people and see how they live. We collaborate with local people to organise visits to out of the way places.
All guests are encouraged to use local shops and markets and eat in the trout restaurants in the village. The holiday is popular with the local community as it offers an opportunity to trade in Spring and Autumn that are off peak periods. It is our policy to use local produce. We grow organic vegetables and have grapevines, figs, olives, quince and a wide variety of fruit trees.
