Environment
Kumbalangi is a model tourism village of nation with natural beauty of back waters, coconut grooves, Paddy/ fish, prawn, crab farms, family ponds, village parks, village ponds, churches, temples, mosques, community halls & auditoriums etc. Its a place with fresh air non polluted, calm & quite surroundings. Back waters provide livelyhood for local fishermen, with their different traditional fishing methods. There are many vast farms cultivating fishes, prawns, crabs etc. Clusters of chinese nets can be seen in the vast back waters. Kumbalangi village has its own waste managing system, most homes are equipped with independent kitchen waste gas units.
We support charities, ie Vincent De paul, church based charities. They give monthly pension to poor, aged, disabled. We encourage guests to visit local attractions, eat in local restaurants and buy local produce. There are so many traditional foods available, Thattucadas are cheap, tasty & good. We don’t have any independent main power source, but we do have auxiliary garden lightening solar power cells. We are use eco friendly washing up liquids.
We have a fresh water pond in our compound and many different flowering plants. We have a kitchen waste gas plant, and slurry is used for the plants. We have separate waste handling methods in bath & toilet and at kitchen. We have 2 water butts for collecting rainwater.
Local conservation is a must, otherwise our village identity will be lost. We use paper very little, and communicate mainly by phone and internet. We use recycled stationary, and our home is in an eco friendly location.
We employ local people for assisting us in the kitchen. We use locally produced vegetables & fruits, furniture items etc. We use our back water fish for guest meals. We have sufficient availability of all type skilled workers.
Community
Kumbalangi itsself is the nations first placed Model Tourism Village with the local community. There are different category of people with different professions - carpenters, masons, fishermen, traditional workers, country boat builders, toddy tappers, lawyers, engineers, doctors, teachers etc living together in a friendly, cultured community. The literary level of our village is very high, most of our villagers are educated and graduates in different levels. You can see many different models of Kerala Traditional houses scattered along 5 kms lengthy our village. Different religions live together in loving, helping, sharing, respecting manner. There are different worship places like Christian churches, Hindu temples, Muslim mosques etc. There are ancient Christian churches.
