All our cleaning products are environmentally friendly. I am using Earth Friendly brand products for all our cleaning and laundry. Apart from using old age method of vinegar and newspaper for our mirrors and windows.
We use energy efficient light bulbs throughout the property. Our linen is organic or fair trade. We recycle for glass and paper which we collect weekly, and we provide separate bins in the lobby so its easy for clients to do it.
Our garden has been designed so its very water efficient. So much so that its not watered at all, any water it needs comes from the dew at night which is very heavy. But we do have a compost area for all the leaves and branches. We have a pine tree in the garden which sheds a lot of pinochio, this we sweep up and our cleaning team take home for the rabbits. Nearly everyone in the canaries keeps chickens and rabbits for consumption.
Everyone involved in the running of the house and its facilities is local. Local tradespersons were used to restore the house and for its maintenance. 1-2 people are employed to maintain the house. Because of the dire situation in Spain and the fact that tourism which is the main industry of the island has been effected we try desperately to use as many local people as possible. We have a lovely lady that cooks for us when clients request using local and home grown products. We are able to offer you a couple of menus to choose from.
We encourage buying local produce and although Arona is quite a sleepy town the people that run the shops are local and really helpful. There are two coffee shops one has the most gorgeous calorific cakes and thick hot chocolates the other which happens to be the local breakfast for all the people in the town hall (in canaries breakfast is taken outside about 10.00 there are no tea facilities at the desk) she does a great Spanish omelette which is an inch and a half thick!
We always use local services and tradespersons such as builders, electricians and plumbers. We encourage guests to visit local attractions, eat in local restaurants and buy local produce by leaving them detailed information for them to make this as easy as possible. Also go on guided tours with locally run companies. With regard to transport I recommend the car hire companies that use the least emmesions with their cars and I advise them on local titsa bus services and leave numbers for local cab guys. We can arrange visit with local guides.
