How this holiday makes a difference

Environment

We take the impact on the surrounding environment seriously and are focused on developing better ways to run their hotels with a dedication to reducing its impact on the environment and the communities in which it operates. Environmental sustainability is at the forefront of our agenda and shapes the way we manage our resources.

The hotel is taking significant steps towards reducing its impact on the environment. Our commitment to creating a positive change towards corporate responsibility and environmental impact is a significant factor in the property’s aim to become a leader in Regional Victoria for environmental initiatives. The in-house Environmental Committee addresses long and short term environmental and responsibility issues aiming towards the best possible outcome in carbon footprint reduction and social responsibility for the property.

In an effort to reduce waste from the hotel, many initiatives are in place. Such as, implementation of recycling stations throughout the hotel to reduce paper, glass and plastic waste. Introduction of eco-friendly amenities for the guest rooms made from biodegradable Plastarch. Redistribution of partly-used guest amenities to homeless shelters, decreasing landfill from rooms by 20%.and a waste pulping system has been installed to reduce landfill, by creating a dry powder by-product which is then used as fertilizer in local farms.

Water conservation is a key priority. A water wise & eco friendly landscaped garden with an emphasis on native Australian plants, utilising a water irrigation system, is run strictly from 80,000 litre rain water storage tanks. Guests are encouraged to ‘think green’ with in-room signage promoting reuse of towels and linen. Installation of dual flush toilets, low flow showerheads, low flow faucets and water-saving dishwashers are all installed to reduce water use. Energy usage within the hotel has been dramatically reduced with the installation of efficient lighting in all rooms, restaurants, conference facilities and public areas.

Community

Our community involvement is very active within the local and state community. Collection of partially used guest amenities is now in place and these are donated to local crisis centres in Geelong and Surfcoast regions, then working with the crisis centres so the final plastic bottles are recycled and we are continually reviewing the total recycle chain to stream line it even more. Used slippers from the guest rooms are also donated to the local Salvation Army.

The hotel is an active sponsor in the local Torquay community where clubs are funded sponsorship and use of hotel facilities including the Torquay Bowls Club, Torquay Surf Lifesaving Club, Beacon Foundation and The Torquay Tigers, who use the hotel gym for training

We are active participants in Movember, Girls night in, Jeans for Genes Day, Good Friday Appeal, Daffodil Day, Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea, Rotary Bowelscan Run which are all in support of national charities. Hotel vouchers are also donated to Surf Coast Shire and to local schools to use as prizes in raffles and auctions to raise funds.

Our Human Resources team hosts an annual recruitment expo for employment over the summer months, this is advertised in local papers with an aim to encourage local residents to attend.

Accommodation Reviews

We invite every traveller who books a holiday via us to send in a review. Because we don't run the holidays they're completely independent and unedited... remember to read between the lines though, as two people on the same holiday can have different views!
