Israel holiday accommodation in the desert
How this holiday makes a difference
Environment
We are building this eco village out of creational joy through a process of search and wonder, and not without hard work and sweat. It is important for us to use environmentally friendly materials for two reasons. Firstly, saving and caring for our planet, and secondly caring for ourselves.
Working with earth is completely different to working with cement, acrylics, plaster and such. Earth is a tolerating material, you can revive dry earth, it endures a long sculpturing process and you can have a lot of fun getting dirty by working with your hands. Our huts are built from straw bales and earth. This method has a number of advantages; the walls are thick and isolating, this way the heat and the cold stay outside, it gives the house a soft, cozy look and the building materials are biodegradable.
We have full usage of ecological living systems on site. We use solar electricity which requires an intelligent usage of electricity and is an alternative energy solution. The irrigation water is grey water which means that all shower and kitchen waste water is going back to the desert through simple tuf (volcanic gravel) filters. We have compost toilets and the all human waste is being composted at the end of site and after a year comes back as soil fertilizer. The toilets are well built and kept, and this system saves up to 30 litres of water a day per person.
Community
We share natural building skills with volunteers from all over the world and school children. We also employ new Israeli immigrants.
