We operate with organic principles and sustainable land practices. We use no poisons or chemicals on the land. We strive to build up the soil base every year by adding humus and other organic material. We avoid cultivation and other intensive farming techniques which can cause soil degradation, moisture loss and erosion. We do not use any chemical drenches on our animals. They are bred for natural parasite immunity. Animal stock numbers are kept in balance with pasture growth and they are rotated through paddocks on a continual basis from big animal to small animal to avoid parasite build up.
We have reserved many areas on the farm for native trees and plants to encourage bird life. We are actively developing community supported agriculture in our area which promotes locally grown produce.
Volunteer work with local school age children is a big part of daily life. At our children's school, we spend time in the classroom teaching and time out of the classroom raising funds for improved school resources. We read and do craft work with children during holiday programs at the library. We work with kids in sports programs and other organized groups like Scouts.
