How this holiday makes a difference

The lodge started as a local initiative by a Motswana Lady born in Maun. The lodge is 100% locally owned and only employs local people. The senior staff (chef cook, barman, waiter, receptionist) is qualified; the other staff has been recruited from the immediate village. All our staff receive ongoing training and are sent to job specific hospitality courses – not only to serve our guests to expected standards, but also to understand the nature of the tourism business.

We advertise through the Maun Animal Welfare Centre and support local initiatives like street kids, soup kitchen and anti aids campaigns, where possible. The local neighbours are encouraged to watch the evening news or sometimes local sport events on our Tv in the bar between 5 and 7 pm. This time allows for interaction between the local community members (ranging from the station commander to the bank manager to the local shop owner and the neighbour) and our clients. This interaction is often not only to great benefit of the local community, but has also proven to be very interesting and enjoyable for or guests.

The two European Advisors to this project (a community development consultant and financial advisor and a builder/carpenter/electrician/cook) are of great value to the training of the staff. These Advisors ensure that the standards of hygiene, cleanliness and friendliness that have been set are maintained and thus the quality of the product is guaranteed to the client at all times.

Accommodation Reviews

We invite every traveller who books a holiday via us to send in a review. Because we don't run the holidays they're completely independent and unedited... remember to read between the lines though, as two people on the same holiday can have different views!
