Living in such a nice area makes one very environmentally aware. Locally we have an excellent facility for recycling which is used to recycle glass, paper, cardboard, aluminium, old furniture and redundant office equipment. We also use re-manufactured cartridges for our printers and return used ones for re-cycling.
We own a steam cleaner which can be used for cleaning the en-suites and floors which cuts down on chemicals. Plastic boxes for delivery have been given to all our suppliers and those who would not take them have agreed to take away any cardboard boxes used. Our premises are heated by gas and there is a boiler management system fitted to cut down consumption. Low energy bulbs are used and we also display towel saver notices to encourage guests to re-use their towels. Recently we put water saver notices in the en-suite bathrooms to reduce water consumption.
Living in a small town which is 13 miles from Inverness with its large retail parks and many shops we feel it is very important to encourage guests to use the excellent local shops. As many as possible of our suppliers trade in Nairn and manufacture almost all their produce range in-house. We also network with other local businesses such as dolphin trip operators, companies who operate tours and other accommodation providers. We own paintings by local artists which are hanging in the public areas and we refer guests onto them to purchase paintings and prints.
We have a policy to buy from local suppliers and producers whenever possible. Local and national charities such as The Highland Hospice, Lifeboat, schools and clubs are fully supported both by donation in cash and kind by us. Our support is also given to the funding of the annual Nairn Highland Games which has been in existence for 130 years. Our staff also enter a team in the annual Nairnshire Challenge which is a race from the highest point to the lowest point in our county organised by Nairn Rotary Club and raises money for local charities.
