How this holiday makes a difference

Environment

We are committed to providing a good quality service whilst also minimising the environmental impact of our activities. By encouraging sustainable practices we try to ensure the continued enjoyment of the environment of England and Kent for future generations. As farmers we are very aware of our environment. As we have orchards and hop gardens, we encourage beneficial insects and other wildlife with hedgerows and grass strips between the trees.

In the house we encourage all forms of re-cycling and composting. Whenever possible we use home grown and local seasonal produce. Eggs come from our own hens and summer fruits are conserved for winter use. All jams are homemade.

Community

I try to use all local produce and tell guests where it comes from i.e. which farmer or grower. If I can't help you with accommodation then I'll try to suggest others in the area who I know and am happy to recommend. I have lots of brochures about things to do within a ten mile radius, whatever your interests - you will never have time to fit them all in! You will find a donation box for Demelza House Children's Hospice in Sittingbourne, which I actively support. Rather than charges for any little extras I encourage the guests to make a donation.

Landscape

We are very proud of what we do here on the farm and are always happy to share our knowledge with guests. Whether taking them for a guided walk of the farm or discussing the many and varied listed buildings. We know where to see the orchids in June and the fungi in the autumn; hop picking in September is still wonderfully evocative of the great history that is Kent farming.

Story of the accommodation provider

We fell into B & B by accident. I already had holiday cottages and a bunkbarn, but when we moved into the main farmhouse, friends began to badger me about doing B & B and started to send me their 'extras'. I have always stressed that guests are coming to a family home, which remains the priority with one son still living here. Once I had decided to do it properly then a priority for me was the breakfast. It is a treat for most people to take time to eat in the morning, so I always try to serve home grown or local, seasonal products, often taking people on a walk to see the growing crops.

Accommodation Reviews

We invite every traveller who books a holiday via us to send in a review. Because we don't run the holidays they're completely independent and unedited... remember to read between the lines though, as two people on the same holiday can have different views!
