Crieff accommodation in Perthshire, Scotland
How this holiday makes a difference
Environment
In the house we use mostly low-energy light bulbs, control our heat throughout the house to avoid unnecessary waste, minimise water waste by providing showers and the use of hippos in the cisterns and use energy efficient appliances where applicable. We provide information to our guests, both in the bedroom pack and on our website, about our environmental policy and how they can help (such as leaving towels to be changed in the showers, leaving recyclable products outside of the bedroom bin so that it can go into our recyclable bin to name but a few). We also provide information about carbon off-set, as we are aware that most visitors need to use a car to get to us.
Community
Where possible our ingredients are locally sourced. Our sausages are specially made by our local butcher, eggs from the shop around the corner rather than from the supermarket etc. Our fruit, vegetables and herbs from the garden are grown without pesticides and are used where possible. Katy makes jams from local ingredients, and also home-made marmalade. We also feature a lot of local crafts in our home, from stained glass windows to copper headboards, as well as mosaics made of recycled materials everywhere. Katy fully supports local food producers and local craftspeople, often using the local monthly market. We offer FairTrade coffee and tea, both at breakfast and in the bedrooms, and we are increasingly using other fair trade ingredients as they become more available.
