Our Haute-Pyrenees self catering chalet is in an area almost entirely inhabited by local people – not a “resort destination”, thereby giving you the opportunity to really get to meet the local people and feel part of the community. Responsibility for maintenance, repairs, cleaning and welcoming of visitors is managed by a local couple and complemented by a plumber, electrician, builder and carpenter from the surrounding villages. In this undeveloped area where regular employment is hard to find, the income this provides is much welcomed.
The garden is a haven for insects and wildlife and has intentionally been left slightly untamed to encourage them to linger. We use no pesticides. The toilet has a twin flush system to minimise water consumption. There is a separate recycling bin/service which processes paper/card, glass and plastic.
We have produced our own “welcome book”, which is in the house and includes details of restaurants in the village and nearby, local grocery shops, plus timing for the local market vans that visit the village. In addition, there are many maps and brochures for local attractions, including horse riding, white water rafting and ancient castles, and an English/French/English dictionary.
We invite every traveller who books a holiday via us to send in a review. Because we don't run the holidays they're completely independent and unedited... remember to read between the lines though, as two people on the same holiday can have different views!
