The owners of the cottage are committed to fair-trade and sustainability. Furniture, curtains, bedding, towels, other textiles and some kitchen equipment is fairly-traded ensuring those in the Global South receive a fair wage and other community benefits. Fairtrade tea and coffee are provided, and guests are greeted with a Fairtrade bottle of wine!
Other furniture, for example beds, are sourced in this country either by local craftsmen or worker-owned co-operatives. Some chairs are ‘re-claimed’ and re-upholstered locally. Many products have been purchased for their recycled content (eg glassware, stationery), organic content (eg bedding, mattresses) and FSC accreditation (eg garden furniture, beds, trellis, wooden spoons!). Recycling facilities are provided (glass, paper, plastics, card, food). Energy use is reduced through low-energy light bulbs, A rated appliances and wind-up torches. Renewable energy is supplied by ‘Good Energy’. A water meter has been fitted to encourage water efficiency. We encourage our visitors to travel to Weymouth via train or coach, if convenient and promote many local attractions accessible on foot, by bus (an open topper to Portland!) or by train.
We invite every traveller who books a holiday via us to send in a review. Because we don't run the holidays they're completely independent and unedited... remember to read between the lines though, as two people on the same holiday can have different views!
