We have solar powered lighting when necessary in the garden. We have some energy efficient lightbulbs and turn off lights if not necessary. We recycle glass, paper and plastic, and we compost all of our organic waste. Our garden and farm is organic.
Our one employee in the cheese business is a lady from the local village. Increasingly we buy locally sourced food and produce, from farmers markets around the area, and shop less and less at supermarkets. As with farming practise everywhere, we employ local contractors and casual labourers to help out where necessary, fixing things, renovating and repairing.
Packaging is kept to a minimum since we buy or exchange most of our groceries from local farmers markets, where Penny sells our organic cheeses.
We only wash guests towels where necessary, and change sheets at the end of a week. Where possible, linen is dried on the washing line. We have a flourishing garden and we often have deer close to the house. We also have geese and guinea fowl, whose eggs we eat.
We encourage guests to use local services and attractions. We provide information on the best local pubs, and have a good knowledge of places to visit in the locality, backed up by a good amount of leaflets and magazines about the Gloucestershire area. Penny volunteers at a local charity - The Barnwood House Trust.
We invite every traveller who books a holiday via us to send in a review. Because we don't run the holidays they're completely independent and unedited... remember to read between the lines though, as two people on the same holiday can have different views!
