This holiday home is the product of a single-minded desire to find a property in a spectacular and peaceful location, yet away from conventional tourism. My philosophy is that travel should be experienced at a human, local level. I lived in the village for four years during renovations and have forged lifelong friendships with the villagers. Even though I don’t currently live there (though I’m working on it!), I consider myself a Caramagnol and the 150 villagers know it!
As my guest what this means is your stay will be welcoming, warm and one of smiles. Depending on whether you see your holiday as mixing and socialising, or retreating to relaxing bliss, the house will give you the opportunity to do both. I have spent years creating this wonderful experience and I am more than happy to share it with you.
Everyone involved in your holiday experience and the house are exclusively either from the village or local. From the cleaner to plumbers and electricians, from builders to the blacksmith. A villager can even pick you up or drop you off at the airport upon request.
With help of a Welcome Booklet I have compiled for guests, you will be encouraged to interact with the immediate area in every way. This could be by attending market days in the surrounding towns and villages, to spending a day touring the surrounding villages on a wine-tasting adventure, to eating in the charming, low-key restaurants of the vicinity. I can attest to the quality of the latter two. Tough job, but someone has got to do it!
Environment:
Efforts have been made to make the house as eco-friendly as possible. All rooms have been painstakingly insulated. This makes the house extremely energy efficient during both the summer and winter months. You will be pleasantly surprised to discover how cool the house remains during the hottest summer months and for this reason there has been no need to introduce air conditioning units. In winter, an economical usage of the electric heaters or a few logs on the wood burning fire will more than suffice to ensure a warm, snug house.
The property only uses energy saving light bulbs. Guests are encouraged to recycle and you will find instructions in the Welcome Booklet on how to recycle your glass, metal and paper. The mains water for the house, as for the whole village, comes from a natural spring.
