How this holiday makes a difference
Environment
Our guest houses, which are surrounded with aromatic plants of thyme, sage and trees of holm oak , carob, bay, olive, fig and almond offer a getaway holiday for those, who love to relax in comfort.
The cottages are spaced aesthetically to fit the enviroment, which allow guests to rest in the harmony of tranquil surrounds.
Hoyran Wedre’s architecture is based on the areas rustic surrounds. Local stone was used in the construction of the cottages amongst the old oak trees. The interior walls are plastered with earth, straw and lime, just like old houses around. The area surrounding the houses has been planted with fruit , olive, carob, almonds, walnut trees and all existing trees around the houses have been preserved during the construction.
The accommodation is an independent small hotel that maintains high standards of responsibility with regards to its operation; composting of organic waste, recycling bins, no use of chemicals or pesticides in the gardens, solar heating panels for hot water.
Almost all of our bulbs in our accommodations are energy efficient. We encourage our guests to minimise their use of the air conditioning. . Wherever possible we have used energy saving white goods and have put notices up encouraging visitors not to waste water or energy wherever possible.
We don’t use any chemicals in garden and we use environment friendly cleaning products. We started to use the drip irrigation wherever possible in our Garden. Some fruit and vegetables( like mulberry, fig, quince, peach, grape, eggplant, pepper, okra, walnut, almonds, carob etc.) are picked fresh from our garden. We have 2 composts in our garden. There are separate organic waste boxes in our kitchen. We only use organic fertilizers such as manure and compost. We never use pesticides in our garden.
Community
Wherever possible things are purchased from the village and the villagers for the cottages. Fresh produce is purchased from the neighbours including local goats cheese. Local people are employed to run the houses. Local craftsmen were used for the building and restoration using traditional methods. All windows were made from local wood in the exact style of the original frames. Even the hinges on the shutters and the locking mechanism were forged by the local blacksmith. We use local people for maintenance.
Our extensive kitchen uses local fresh produce with delights, such as olive oil, goat cheese, milk, yoghurt, carob syrup and honey. We prepare traditional foods including cold starters cooked with olive oil, sea food, homemade pasta and deserts.
All the rooms are tastefully decorated with antique furniture, hand crafted closets, shelves and chest of drawers with a traditional fireplace. Most of the furniture in the stone house were bought from the second hand bazaar. We are keeping all the antique furniture and maintaining them very well.
Suleyman, the owner, is from Demre and he is very knowledgable about the local area and gives valuable advice about the Lycian Way walk to our guests.
We go to local restaurants regularly and we recommend them to our guests also. We encourage our guests to visit the villiagers, use local services, eating a locally owned restaurants and use public transport where possible. It means their money directly benefits the local, and they will generally have a far more enriching experience
