Kundapur bed & breakfast holiday accommodation, India
How this holiday makes a difference
Environment
We promote responsible travel and encourage our guests to travel to places where flora fauna and cultural heritage are the primary attraction. We strive to be small scale as opposed to mass tourism. We also helped to develop a nearby Bird habitat. A unique place where man made wetlands ( due to excavation of top soil for tile factories ) has become home to a variety of resident and migratory birds. The woods in the island are a haven for wildlife as it is quiet and remains generally undisturbed. We promote recycling, energy efficiency and water conservation, Avoid waste in the form of luxury. Use row boat instead of motor boat to avoid water pollution. Use of natural air circulation not Air Conditioners. Use of Garden waste to heat water in locally made boilers called astra vole. Use of CFL bulbs. Use of natural materials in all construction. Use of materials that are abundantly available such as mud, wood and stones sourced from the surrounding area. Much of the wooden cottage has been built and furnished with second hand materials. Build environment awareness among the local people. Not only is litter unsightly to the beaches and shores of our coast and dangerous to aquatic life,
Community
Few visitors get to experience rural India. We want our guests to head into the heart of India, allowing them a chance to witness firsthand the life the vast majority of Indians live. We encourage guests to hire bicycles. This encourages them to make the most of local shops. Any money spent here helps strengthen the local community. We provide information on the local areas and maps to navigate the area.We also provide employment to the local community. The local fishermen, toddy tappers and villagers who make jaggery are all benefitted by their interaction with our guests. Reviving interest in the lost kingdom of the Pepper Queen. Arranging visits and providing lunch among the ruins of the old city. Visits to local temples are encouraged. Visits to local festivals like Spirit Worship .Fire festivals, Buffalo race. Guests can also visit a spice plantation see different tropical fruits and spices which they use in their diet but don't get the chance to see the actual plants. The visitors are given both theoretical as well as practical information about the different uses of spices both in normal diet as well as in the treatment of common diseases. We provide visitors with a value for money experience that doesn't cost the Earth.
