Kadavu home stay in Fiji
How this holiday makes a difference
Environment
Kadavu is well know for its bird, Parrot which is populated and we can just see flying along the cooconut trees and visitors like to wtch and see this colourful bird. Kadavu is well known for its parrot and iguana and most visitors buy parrot or iguana from the locals and its illegal to take this creature out of the island, as it is being protected,Since now there are still some locals who sell the bird illgeally with a very cheap price.I remember once i was there i found 2 parrots in a cage ready to be sold i then persuded the local not sell as it is illegal, i talked to him but he still wanted money. I really hate to see this beautiful parrot out of the island and i manage to talk to the person who inchargr of the wild life....at the end i was happy woman as this 2 beautiful parrots were freed.
In my village and so as the other neigbouring villagers,,there are areas in in the sea which are prohibited to villager to go fishing or even touch and sea creature. There are areas where they are allowed to fish.It will be a three years ban. This programme was introduced by the fisheries department and locals are doing there best to follow and keeping there coast line clean and dumping of rubbish..daviqele is reccomende as one of the cleanest village in kadavu district,,left over foods are given to pigs, cover peels are back to the garden for manure and there is no big supermarket to buy can drinks, maybe bottle, like juice bottle, tomtaoe sauce bottle, etc are cleaned and used for storing cooconut oils fresh from the farm.empty juice bootle are used by men for water bottle,.they make use of there waste and thats one of the most impotant thing i found about village life..Even empty can tinned food are clean is cleaned and is for baking,,like baking sconed, bun.
Water in daviqele is fresh and runs from the Mt washington and its pure with no chemicals in it. visitors love this Daviqele water since its just filtered with no chemicals.I wish to show my guest as you can spend money on buying fresh pure water here in daviqele Its free..This water from Mt washing caters for 5 village and problem only happens if there is hurricane or flood this can cause blocked tanks from tanks, so some villagers have tanks to get rain drops, other wise they love to have their natural pure water.
The village has its own generator and power is on only for 2 to three hours ans later on will have to use your lanttern. Most house hold have there own generator so can use after 9pm.
In daviqele there are few foundation that were built from 3 generation ago or 4 are still in the village. You cannot built your house unless you are very close member of the family that owns that foundation.
Kadavu is well as a rugged area and going to Daviqele will have to travel by boat. you will find about 5 or six trucks but thats the goverment transport..
Travelling by boat will eanble you see the beautiful untouched isalnd of kadavu.
to love and care for the enviroment ,preseravation of there culture, and commitment to the coomunity
