How this holiday makes a difference
Environment
Waste - We have taken atmost care to minimise the waste from our property . All sorts of food waste and other degradable waste is collected in a vermi composit tank to make natural manure .Thus produced manure is used in our vegetable farm in the backyard . All plastic waste is collected saperatly and given to Kudumbasree ( NGO ) which in turn used as an ingredient for making tar for the roads .
Water - We have done rain water harvesting by collecting the same in a big well and used for irrigation purpose . All other waste water other than sewage water is collected saperatly in an underground tank and being treated chemically and used for irrigation and watering the plants .
Energy - My next stage is to convert all my electricity consumption to solar energy . The new block which is under construction shall be totally on solar energy .
Building - This homestay villa is my ancestral house ,which is almost 80 yrs old . My father brough this house from the maharaja of Edappally . I dont want to destry that . That`s why I modified and made into a homestay . I have planted all sorts of trees in this 1 acre property . I have a wide verieties of fruit trees in my property . A small land is earmarked for vegetable cultivation .
Community
Volunteering and Charity - As I mentioned earlier, I got an ambition to start a charity through this homestay - A meal A day for the needy . As a member of Rotary International Organisation , I have participitated in many charity programmes .A part of my earnings has been earmarked for the same .I want my guests also to involve in this meal programme and feel the happiness of the poor .
A fair deal - I have employed 4 people permenantly and another 3 on part time job . The first thing I have done is providing the same sort of accommodation to my all staffs so that they dont feel neglected . Arranged good and healthy food for all . The vegetable garden in the backyard is maintained by them and extra income generated is distributed to them .
Friends and neighbours - I hardly spent 10 yrs of my childhood in this hometown .But I had a circle of good friends . Once I started this homestay , I started contacting one by one and we had a get togather of oldies after a gap of 30-35 yrs . That was one of the most memorable moment of my life . Few taxi /tour operaters and resturants from my neighbourhood are closly associated with my homestay and really happy with the extra business they could generate .
