Antalya family friendly hotel in Turkey
How this holiday makes a difference
Environment
We at Maviay Hotel endeavour to do our up most to repect our surrounding area. We are very considerate when disposing of our waste and do so with great care. We are always aware and we do our best to ensure that our staff are aware of the importance of correct diposal. We get through an enormous amount of plastic water bottles which we save and take to Kumluca for disposal in a specially dedicated place. Glass is also disposed of in the same way. Our guests are made very aware of the effort we make.
We have a large garden at the hotel so we are able to have our own chickens. They do produce a considerable amount of waste!!! our garden benefits enormously from this. We have fantastic roses. The chickens are fed any waste food that we may have and our guests are able to enjoy the freshes eggs at breakfast time. Being directly on the Lykain Way we periodically walk the route from the hotel to retrieve rubbish which is then disposed of with care and consideration. We are fortunate to have a source of fresh mountain water right next to the hotel. As well as using this water to top up the pool we encourage guests to drink and fill their bottles from this water source.
We use solar energy for heating water. I am always amazed that even on a cloudy day in the winter, with just a half hour of sunshine we are blessed with pipeing hot water.
We supply our guests with bicycles so that they are able to explore the near by areas. Walking seems to be a favourite as it is the best way to savour this beautiful Bay and wecoming village.
Community
Ours is a village community. Around 30 English people live here and we have just had a very 'English' bring and buy sale to help the local school which has just had a new block built to encourage the children in technical matters. To our delight the local Turkish people came along to the sale and supported us and had a thoroughly good time. The sale was successful in raising around 3000TL. We intend to make this an annual event.
Adrasan is a very natural area. We are delighted to have a lot of wild life in the area. Turtles in the bay are growing in size and number as are the tortoises that roam in and around our garden.
There are many green houses in Adrasan. Where possible we source our fruit and vegetables from the local community. We are fortunate to be able to pick tomatos, peppers, courgetes, cucumbers and aubergines from our local greenhouses therefore providing great fresh fare and helping to support our local farmers as well as giving our guests the very best delicious food.
A great day out is to go on one of the boat trips. Guests can be thoroughly lazy or do some fishing while topping up the suntan. We can also organise trips to the many historic sites practically on our doorstep. Olympos, Phasalis and Arikanda. Turkey was once discribed to me as an open air museum. I think this is true as there seems to be something interesting around every corner.
Sunday is market day in Adrasan where local people do their weekly shop. During the summer ther are a few more stalls selling items of jewelery or knit wear made by the local villagers. We are happy to takes guests to the village market, invaribly ending up in the village pub after for a cool beer. The viilage may be small but it seems that the tiny stores can always provide what we need.
