All Seasons Kangaroo Island Lodge, South Australia
How this holiday makes a difference
Environment
The All Seasons Kangaroo Island Lodge have employed a range of initiatives to assist in preservation and sustainability of the environment. We have planted native species in our gardens to encourage birdlife, we have created a worm farm to help with decomposing food scraps, we utilise rain water tanks, energy saving light globes, solar hot water systems and water saving shower heads, we have a home grown vegetable and herb garden and we recycle all office paper. In each of our rooms, we advise guests that water is precious and ask them to assist us by taking shorter showers and by declining clean linen every day.
Even the local bird community benefit from our recycling, for our popular Pelican feeding show, we utilise the fish cases left over from dinner.
As we are located in American River, the area affords the Lodge an abundance of wildlife. With this comes to responsibility of conserving the wildlife and birdlife and encouraging visitors to the Island to do the same. After dusk we offer guests torches to view wallabies and possums in their natural environment. This allows visitors to see these fascinating animals up close whilst also maintaining that this is their natural environment and to not get too close and disturb them.
One of our staff members is actively involved in the preservation of the Glossy Black cockatoos, assisting in tree planting and observations of these unique birds.
Community
The All Seasons Kangaroo Island Lodge supports its local community in a number of ways. Our staff are made up of approximately 20 people of which all but 1 are locals with a family history linked to Kangaroo Island. During induction, staff are put through an extensive training program in their department. At a later stage, they are then crossed trained in all departments to assist those staff members wanting more hours. Our working conditions are exceptional, with flexibility and comfort for all staff.
The Lodge is also very supportive of the local community through donations and room vouchers. Recently, the All Seasons Kangaroo Island Lodge donated two nights accommodation to the Kingscote Campus for raffling for their students. The Lodge has also been involved in sponsorship for events on Kangaroo Island such as Art Feast, Gourmet Gallop and the Coopers KI Cup.
We also support the community of American River, where the Lodge is located, by offering a discount in our restaurant, Reflections Restaurant, to any locals living in this area. This encourages the local community to come together and enjoy a fabulous meal.
In support of the local community, we stock our Gift Shop with local produce and artwork. In our Conference room and throughout the Lodge, we display local artists paintings which are for sale to our guests. At reception we have a range of brochures promoting the attractions on Kangaroo Island and encourage guests to explore all that this fascinating Island has to offer.
