How this holiday makes a difference
Environment
We always stress the importance of being environmentally friendly and educate and encourage our guests to be aware of the dangers and consequences of their actions by discarding their litter and taking nature for granted. We use notices in all bathrooms asking guests to consider their use of water, a precious natural commodity. We collect rain water to water our plants.
We recycle cardboard, cans, plastic bottles, glass, books, newspapers and magazines, using the facilities and services provided by the local authority. We encourage guests to separate waste for recycling. We do this by providing waste separation drawers outside each group of rooms. There are drawers for paper, glass, metal, organic waste (old food) and hazardous waste (e.g. batteries).
We cultivate the garden without of the use of pesticides and fertilisers. We have bird houses. We compost organic and garden waste and use the compost in the garden for planting.
We have a laundry scheme - we only change sheets and towels when requested to do so by the guests, and of course when new guests arrive. All of our toilet rolls are recycled. We live and work at our B&B, so transport pollution is kept to a minimum.
We encourage our guests to leave their cars parked and use e.g. the free ski-bus in winter.
Community
We source most of our produce locally, for breakfast and occasional dinners with guests, thereby supporting the village bakery, supermarket and other local businesses.
If we are fully booked, we recommend other local B&Bs and guest houses in the community and even get in touch with them to pass on the contact. We publicise local events and services by displaying leaflets and posters in our entrance area and arrange appointments for our guests upon request. We encourage guests to visit local attractions, eat in local restaurants and buy local produce. We are always available to personally recommend local amenities to our guests. We encourage our guests to use public transports whenever possible. We have a bus stop nearby which provides links to all the surrounding areas (e.g. Kolm Saigurn hiking bus, Spa-bus).
Being a small family run establishment and living here, we have a much better idea of local activities and those special places to visit. We are also able to offer that personal level of service in terms of independent travel, which is especially important to those trying their first ‘non-package’ holiday. We love Rauris and want you to enjoy it too, either for a short break, or preferably a longer one which minimises your travel impact relative to your length of stay.
Rauris offers a fantastic range of environmental leisure facilities by making best use of the natural, mountainous environment. It is our wish to help preserve this environment, both now and for the long term. The facilities here enable the traveller to either engage with local customs and celebrations (there is still a close following of the seasonal and farming activities and seasonal changes), or the traveller can simply ‘do their own thing’.
