How this holiday makes a difference
Environment
Waste: we separate all rubbish, e.g. glas, plastic, paper, etc. for the recycling.
Water: we have sufficient water in this area and we use our own ground water to fillup the swimmingpool and for the complete garden area. Warm water: we produce our warm water (e.g. for shower) with solar panels.
Light: we use energy-saving-lamps.
Heating: we heat with solar-energy and with gas, depends always of the season. And last but not least: we do not have any airconditioned rooms, which would be an absolutely luxury in this type of old tuscan villa.
Building: we build, restore and equip using carefully sourced local materials. We take care and conserve the old and cultural heritage of our villa. If it's necessary to rebuild or restore something we always use, if it is possible, old materials. Materials which we try to find at local suppliers.
Transport: we suggest to travel with with public transportation, aslo for the sightseeing tours to Florence, Siena and Rome. As well, the guests can rent mountain bikes at our place, for any kind of sightseeing or travelling arround.
Furtheron, we use local fruits and vegetabels. As well as according to the season. Which means for example no strawberrys or tomatos during wintertime. And we do have our own yard for the vegetables. Means reaping in the morning and eating in the evening, without transport by truck or anything else.
Community
Anghiari as well as the neighbouring historical locations (such as Sansepolcro, Citerna, Monterchi with the famous paintings of Piero della Francesca, Cittΰ di Castello, the provincial capital of Arezzo) offer an extensive cultural program throughout the summer. Many local festivities take place throughout the year all over the Tuscany. There are many colourful farmer's markets which reflect the Italian way of life. The great central location of Anghiari invites you to go on trips to its famous nearby neighbours. To name just a few: Florence, Siena, Perugia, Assisi, Gubbio. Lago di Trasimeno, the Adria-coast everything is easily to reach within an hour by car. Also, there are many famous Franciscan monasteries, such as La Verna, Camaldoli, Montecasale or the birthplace of Michaelangelo, Caprese, is always worth a visit.
We recommend to our guests also the local restaurants with the tipical tuscan cooking style. Especially wonderful dishes as "panzanella", "acqua cotta" and the famous "ribollita" are old and well known dishes, created hundred of years ago. If the guests wish, we make the reservation in the restaurants to ensure a warm welcome for them.
The people that work with us, work under fair conditions and are local people. Not to forget all the local crafts, that we recommend to our clients, as: producer of cheese, saddle maker, basket maker, producer of oil, vinegar and honey.
