Jungle lodge by the beach in Mexico
How this holiday makes a difference
Environment
The Tailwind jungle lodge is committed to reducing our environmental impact as much as possible. We are a certified sustainable jungle lodge through Sustainable Travel International. Through the certification process we monitored our water, energy, waste, chemicals, carbon emissions, land impact (erosion), and more. We continue to set goals in all of these areas and are continually working towards lowering our impact. Water is our scarcest resource in the jungle and we currently collect rain water, recycle gray water and use gravity feed for our water distribution. We also use natural and biodegradable soaps in our operations to lower our impact on the jungle. Several composting toilets are also used on the property.
We also take great care to respect the native flora and fauna in the jungle. Local animals such as tropical birds, tejones, boa snakes, armadillos, and more are protected. We respect the animals homes and they respect ours. Animals are free to roam throughout the lodge. Guests are educated about the local animals. None of the animals in the jungle are dangerous to our guests.
At the Tailwind we are committed to holistic sustainability. From the intial design to the construction materials and construction process, we have taken great care to use as many renewable, local materials as possible.
Community
The Tailwind jungle lodge is very much involved in our local community. We donate 1% of our profits to local non-profits (community center and turtle protection). We also spend large amounts of time volunteering in our local community with trash collection days, planting days, and classes for children. Tailwind staff members volunteer at the local organic garden, as well as teaching english to the local mexican children, and volunteering at the community center.
The Tailwind jungle lodge encourages our guests to shop locally at craft shops, as well as support local restaurants such as Eva's tacos and La Roca, as well as the local markets: the fish market, fruit and veggie stands and the local grocery stores. The Tailwind lodge also employees local people in our operations. Our builder, Adalberto Garcia is a San Pancho local. He and his sons have been instrumental throughout the creation of the Tailwind jungle lodge.
Part of Tailwind's mission is also to educate our local community about the importance of sustainability. We try to share our inspiration with other hotels and services in the town of San Pancho. We regularly host workshops, events and open houses at the lodge for members of the local community. Our sustainability policy is available to the public.
