Menorca boutique hotel, Spain
How this holiday makes a difference
Environment
Our promise to sustain my environment could actually be summed up quite rapidly and simply: our main goal is to keep Menorca the way it has always been and still is – natural, protected, unspoilt... If we wanted to choose only one word, we could just as well say wonderful. The UNESCO found out and declared Menorca a Reserve of the Biosphere, and we feel it is our obligation – and our wish. Hence at Biniarroca we all work to constantly move forward in the respect and sustainable use of the existing resources.
When we decided to convert an old Menorcan farmhouse into a casual yet refined, rustic yet luxurious hotel, we were sure we wanted it to be a marriage of old and new – and that necessarily meant to bare the environment and the nature in the spotlight.
We are very conscious about the situation of Menorca and our Earth, specially in terms of water and other resources shortage. Therefore, on our scale, we are taking as many steps as we can in order to protect it, such as a energy and water saving and efficiency programme for both customers and workers (intelligent air conditioning systems, use of recycled and bleach free paper, low wattage light bulbs and lamps, waste handling – plastic, glass, oil and paper –, natural lighting where possible, etc).
In addition, we are currently working towards obtaining a quality, environmental and health and safety management system recognition: the SICTED (Integral Quality in Tourism System).
Community
We encourage our guests to discover and take part in the culture, traditions and nature of our Island, and we train our staff – both international and local – to be able to do so, as they are the best spokepeople, being in direct contact with our guests. Taking advantage of the fact that our pretty island was declared Reserve of the Biosphere by the UNESCO in 1993, we also have at our guests' disposal the “Reserve of the Biosphere Corner”, where detailed information about the Island from a natural point of view can be found – specially about its flora and fauna (Menorca is excellent for bird watchers and horse lovers!). There are maps available, as well as a guide on what to see and do in terms of local gastronomy and production (cheese, sobrasada, gin, ensaimada, wine...), megalithic monuments, British heritage, traditional crafts (particularly the avarques and the jewellery), popular festivities and so on.
We offer our hotel guests an exquisite menu of freshly prepared foods using ingredients from the island and our own vegetable garden. At breakfast and for lunch, homemade cakes and quiches, fresh fruit and vegetable, and local cheeses and meat are served on the sunny terrace - while at night, candles, soft music and the rose scented gardens transform the scene into a sophisticated yet truly unique Menorcan dining experience.
Being aware of the importance of social commitment of the enterprises, we undertake corporative acts of social responsibility, such as helping out in funds raises for various local NGO.
