Lorne bed & breakfast in Victoria, Australia
How this holiday makes a difference
Environment
Wildlife
Injured wildlife (koalas and kangaroos) are nursed back to health at the local wildlife centre in Lorne. Guests are welcome to visit and volunteer. There are currently 3 kangaroos and a wombat being nursed back to health at the moment.
Waste
All our paper and bottles are recycled at La Perouse. We use environmentally friendly products for the washing machine, washing up and floor cleaning.
Water
To conserve water, all showerheads are 9L per minute and toilets are dual flush.
Energy
Our electricity is from renewable green energy and the light bulbs we use are all energy efficient.
Buildings
All our renovations are in keeping with the style of the house.
Transport
We encourage our guests to travel to Lorne on local transport. There is a train to Geelong then a bus along the great ocean road. La Perouse is within walking distance to waterfalls, shops, restaurants and the beach.
Suppliers
We source produce locally and also grow our own herbs - we make our own jams, croissants, & pastries. We also support local providers such as La Madre, Geelong & McGains, Anglesea, Foodworks, Lorne.
Community
Friends & neighbours
We email our guests prior to their stay to inform them of the local restaurants and our website describes the local experiences not to be missed. We have a comprehensive information centre in Lorne that can provide maps etc All our staff live in Lorne.
Campaigning for change
We are members of the LOVE LORNE initiative in order to maintain sustainability of our village. Guides used for the Waterfall walks all live in Lorne.
Volunteering & charity
We donate hours of our time to the LOVE LORNE initiative. We are members of the local business trader committee and the LOVE LORNE sub-committee. We donate accommodation as part of the LOVE LORNE initiative. Sue and Laurel are both nurses and have been known to drive women in the Lorne community to their appointments in Geelong: chemo, radiotherapy etc Sue, a midwife at Lorne Hospital is also a keen knitter and has knitted many little cardigans for the newborns in Lorne in the past 12 months.
A fair deal
We are a family run business and therefore we have casual local staff to mow the Lorne, clean the windows, clean the rooms and balance the books.
Local crafts and culture
We are constantly working with other businesses such as 35 Elephants, Babalu bar & restaurant to create packages and incentives that attract more people to Lorne.
Travelling with respect
We have regular induction days for all the Lorne businesses to ensure any new employee understands the brief to welcome guests to our town like they would to their own homes.
