How this holiday makes a difference

Environment

At Broadway Manor Cottages we care about our environment and we are committed to working in a sustainable way and take care to reduce, re-use and recycle at all times.

We encourage our guests to join us in recycling paper, plastics, glass and to compost their food waste. We recycle used stamps for the RNIB supporting blind and partially blind people.

The Manor House, when it was rebuilt in the late 1980s, used mostly Cotswold stone reclaimed from the surrounding grounds and we aim to use as much recycled and local materials as much as possible in our building projects. We re-use carrier bags for shopping or use biodegradable jute bags and have jute bags available for our guests to use during their stay.

We use solar power to heat some of the water on site and are fitting low energy bulbs wherever practicable (reducing our carbon impact). We are replacing electrical appliances when required with ‘A’ rated or higher appliances and aim to purchase durable long-lasting goods.

We encourage our guests to carbon-offset their stay through a recognised 'Pledge a Tree' Carbon-Offsetting Scheme. We use rainwater wherever possible to water the garden. All of our surface water is piped into the stream at the bottom of our garden and surface water from the Cotswold escarpment feeds our wildlife pond.

During their stay, we encourage our guest to 'Enjoy a Car Free Day' in the local area and to shop local and eat local.

Community

We provide our guests with up to date information about local events and places to visit during their stay across the Cotswolds AONB and regularly publish updated details on our website, blog and on-line nature diary.

Debbie works in the local Tourist Information Centre as a Volunteer and is actively involved in the local traders' association, community projects and the biennial Broadway Arts Festival. Broadway Arts Festival Trust is a local charity, inaugurated in 2010 to promote Broadway's rich artistic heritage and to encourage an interest in the arts (music, drama, literature and art) through education in local schools.

Broadway Manor Cottages is a member of the British Asparagus Festival Community Interest Company and gets involved in a number of festivals and events promoting the locality, such as local Farmers' Markets and Christmas and Summer Shopping Events in the village.

We recycle our furniture and clothing through a local recycling scheme and give our support to a wide range of community and environmental projects in the local area.

We encourage our guests to support the hundreds of small businesses in the region by promoting and supporting our local shops and restaurants.

We aim to use local labour for building and ongoing maintenance of our buildings and gardens.

Landscape

We provide our guests with a wealth of information on the area including maps, guidebooks, leaflets on destinations, activities, events to help our guests enjoy the local landscape.

The Cotswolds AONB is a great location to explore on foot or by bicycle. The Cotswold Way National Trail, Wychavon Way and a number of waymarked footpaths are located nearby. We publish details of courses in the Cotswolds such as Dry-Stone Walling, Hedgelaying and other traditional rural skills.

In our own grounds, guests can relax and enjoy the wide variety of wildlife that share our garden, woodland, stream and ponds. We have a Nature Diary in which our guests can record their sightings and we publish an on-line Nature Diary keeping our guests up to date with events in our grounds.
