How this holiday makes a difference

Environment

We gained our first Green Tourism Business Scheme award last year for the removal of four old oil fired boilers, reducing our carbon emmissions - the equivalent of a small smelting foundry in South Wales! We are very proud of this achievement.

We recycle all of the waste that we can, with a re-cycling unit within the hotel, though of course more can always be done. We are well on top of all food waste, unnecessary card and packaging, glass and metal recycling, re-using paper within the office and our electrics have WEEI compliance. Please, do feel free to add to the bins when you are here!

Our current plans include Solar Panel instalation to provide for all the hotel electricity needs - watch this space , planners permitting.

Added to this, we encourage guests to leave their cars behind at the hotel and use the fab local bus service which runs from outside our front door, or hire a bike from our local "Go By Cycle" friends who deliver to the hotel. The famous Quiet Lanes in this part of the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty are great routes to explore.

Our reception area has a wealth of local information, but please ask - we can personally recommend things to do and places to go, with a good supply of maps and stories to tell.

Community

If we can't get it locally, then we're not really interested!

This goes for all of our fresh produce which is delivered daily. We trace our meat back to local farms and our dairy produce too. The eggs come from the farm which is seven fields away, real ale is brewed within six miles and even the wine supplier is on our doorstep (though we must admit that his wines do come further)!

ALL of our staff are local, born and bred, and are part of the authenticity of the service we offer here - so you'll be treated with real Cotswolds Charm and there's always a local from the village to tell you the Best of Places to go!!

Our village is a thriving small community, still supporting two pubs, however sadly the Post Office has closed. So now, as pillars of our community, we have joined up with the village pub to offer counter services and a sorting plus delivery room with us - so the show goes on!

We also sponsor the "Star of the Month". This is where the village nominate someone who has done a good turn and done something for the village. We then reward them with a free Sunday Lunch!!

Landscape

We actively promote and encourage all our guests to visit the wealth of wonderful wildlife that surrounds our hotel. We are very close to the wonderous Cotswold Water Park and all of its Sites of Special Scientific Interest. Forty square miles of Cotswolds countryside with 147 lakes, created by gravel extraction and the largest man-made wareway in Europe.

Come for the bat walks. Come for the bird watching. Come for the fishing. Come for and badger nights.

No break would be complete without a visit to the magnificent Westonbirt Arboretum. This is only a mile or two away - 200 acres of the most diverse and sustainable Arboretum in the World. And don't forget the events at Badminton.

And of course, we're there at the Head of the Thames, very close to its origins before the stream snakes across to the North Wessex Downs and beyond to the Chilterns. Our local countryside offers some fabulous waterside rambles and meanders!

Now privately owned by ex rugby & licensed trade characters , ex Guinness Rugby , ‘tother the daughter of a renowned Cambridge vet, we carry on the administration of other “delights of equally local fare!”
