Since we started we have always aimed to offer you a break with the minimum impact to the environment. The tents are lit with solar power where possible, with extra lanterns and candles to add ambience. Our site is in the nature reserve of the Ardeche gorge thus we are acutely aware of the impact on the environment of our operation. The use of nomadic tents was to reflect our desire to start a lodge that left no footprint whatsoever. The tents are broken down at the end of every season and the site is left to the elements and the wild boar in the winter months.
The tents are all handmade and treated with linseed oil. We have a purpose build reed lagoon that handles all our sewage and although there is mains electricity at the site all the tents only have solar lamps and candles for lighting at night. We recycle glass, plastic and paper and have facilities for our guests to recycle their waste too. We have a laundry scheme where we only change towels and sheets after 7 days or when guests request them. All showers have soap dispensers which are filled with Savon de Marseille (soap made from Olive oil). We do not print any brochures relying on our website to provide all info. We provide our guests with leaflets on the Nature Reserve and information about the conservation of the river environment. We encourage our guests to leave cars off the campsite.
All our food is bought locally. The accommodation price includes a tax de sejour tax that is paid directly to the commune. We sell information leaflets and maps that are produced by the Nature Reserve. The proceeds go directly to the reserve. We encourage our guests to buy food in the local farm shop and eat in the two restaurants in the village. We encourage our guests to visit the chateau in the local village. We only sell Ardeche wines. We support the local community by attracting large amounts of visitors to the area and promoting the Ardeche Gorge. We hope that our passion for the gorge is felt by all our guests and that the exposure to the magnificent nature and energy here touches adults and children alike and allows them to rediscover the power and freedom of being outdoors (something that is very rare in our society).
