Aldeburgh self catering accommodation in Suffolk
How this holiday makes a difference
Environment
We use low energy appliances whenever we are replacing or updating equipment. Thanks to Suffolk County Council's recycling scheme we are able to ensure that waste is separated into recyclable components which includes food waste for composting. We are comitted to using low energy light bulbs wherever we are replacing old bulbs.
The kitchen has been recently modernised. This allowed us to choose new appliances which are much more energy efficient as well as giving our guests excellent facilities. The lighting in the kitchen uses low energy ceiling lighting which was chosen due to its high energy efficiency.
The boiler has also been replaced in order to reduce energy consumption and maximise efficiency. Most radiators have thermostatic valves which allow guests to control the heat in all areas of the house and ensure that rooms are only heated when needed.
Where windows have needed to be replaced in order to maximise thermal efficiency we have used double glazed units which give maximum heat retention.
We provide bins for recycling cans, plastic, paper and food waste and are strong supporters of Suffolk County Council's efforts to minimise waste to landfill. Facilities for recycling glass and most other recyclable materials can be found at the end of Crag Path and we give guests instructions on how to find these.
As keen nature enthusiasts we give our guests details of local walks and nature reserves and provide ordinance survey maps so they can enjoy the stunning landscapes surrounding Aldeburgh.
The house has been conserved using original bricks and lime and mortar pointing. Double glazing has been installed in a sensitive manner.
Aldeburgh is in a place of oustanding natural beauty with several RSPB bird reserves close by (minsmere/ dunich heath etc) we are members of the RSPB and provide information for visiting.
We recommend you buy fish from the local fisherman's huts, supporting this valuable and dying local trade. The fisherman fish from small boats some farm lobsters/mussels in a sustainable manner.
Community
Aldeburgh is a diverse community which has increasingly become to rely on tourism as its main source of income. We are comitted to supporting local suppliers and businesses such as our butchers Salters who sell outstanding locally sourced meat including what is arguably the best bacon in the world!
The house has recently been modernised which included installing double glazing on parts of the front of the building, replacing the kitchen with completely new units and appliances. This involved employing numerous local contractors and trades persons and we are strong advocates of supporting local specialists.
Aldeburgh has some outstanding local businesses many of which are in danger of going under. We are comitted to promoting these businesses as they are key components of the local community and make Aldeburgh what it is. We provide guests with details of local restaurants, services and things to see and do so that our guests can enjoy the wealth of activities places to visit that are within easy reach of Aldeburgh.
We employ local trades to maintain and work on the house and are committed to supporting local businesses. We are members of the Aldeburgh Society, the Alde and Ore Association, the golf club and friends of Aldeburgh Music and the Prometheus Orchestra based in the town.
