How this holiday makes a difference
Environment
Our rural houses try to preserve the environment and for that reason we invite all our guest to reuse and recycle the rubbish. For that we have special containers to separate plastics, papers, glasses and organic rubbish.
We have also tried to use the least amount of plastic elements as it is a non-degradable material.
Moreover we comunicate all our guest that water is too precious to waste it, so we tell them " Please, be concious and try to use only the amount you need".
In addition., and in order to reduce the consume of energy, our rural house has been built, restored and equiped using carefully sourced local materials and in a style that tells to the foreing people the cultural and geological story of the landscape.
So during the winter, and because of the good orientation of the house, it remains warm using only a radiator; and during the summer it remains fresh because of the stone walls.
Apart from that, we try to conserve natural species that live only in the Canary Islands. Most of them you will find in our patio/terrace or garden.
We choose suppliers that match our environmental values: we always try to use environmentaly friendly products (for exmple to clean the house or for the plants; to wash the towels and the blankets for the clients).
We have installed low consume lights inside the house to save electricity.
Community
The owner of the rural house works hardly to create good relationships between tourists and the local community, for this reason we always recommend our clients local restaurants and stores, activities companies, etc.
We sustain jobs and cultural diversity by supporting local craft makers and artisans, and promoting cultural attractions.
You will find a full information book with all the tourist places you should visit during your stay in El Hierro: Mirador de la Peña, Sabinosa, Pozo de la Salud, Árbol Santo, Lagartario (Lizard Visitor Centre) ...
Moreover, we will provide you with puntual information and details about opening times, local transports, medical dentres, farmacies, and all kind of information you could need during your holidays.
Apart form that, we welcome all our visitors to our rural house with some local products, as "quesadillas" (a sweet made of goat cheese).
On the other hand, we also advice you to try our typical products to see how soft is our smoked cheese or our wines, how special taste our fish accompained with our "papas con mojo" (boiled potatoes with and spicy canarian red or green sauce).
After the recent experience we have had regarding the birth of a new submarine volcano, we have become aware of how weak a community can be if we are not united. Fortunately, people from El Hierro is like a big family and we have learnt to see our beautiful volcanic island with another eyes.
