How this holiday makes a difference

We operate an organic farm and our first objective is the breeding of local native farm animals and the conservation of traditional landscapes. For fruits and vegetables we have a policy of buying local and organic produce whenever possible.

We have implemented various measures so as to reduce our impact on the environment such as: we do not use individually packed items, we recycle waste, we use low energy light bulbs, and we control water pressure.

We have installed solar panels for thermic and photoelectric production. We also provide guests with information on excursions in the area without using their car.

Finally we have an eco-museum dedicated to the Asturian pony with objectives to implement traditional activities, the culture of Asturias and rural ecotourism.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

The beautiful, un-crowded beaches.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

Look into the coastal train. We didn't find out about it until after we had made other arrangements. It's supposed to be a beautiful trip.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, and minimized impacts on the environment?

Opportunity to buy local produce (fruit, veg, cider). Transport (i.e. a car) is really required to get about.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

Good. Enjoyable and relaxing holiday. Very friendly owners who's English was infinitely better than our Spanish!

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

The little towns, villages and beaches and also the mountains close by. The relaxed atmosphere at the accommodation.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

It is ideal if you are really into horses as the owners clearly are.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, and minimized impacts on the environment?

Yes - I think the owners are working hard to put good practice into place. Don't think they are geared up for English visitors particularly and some basic information about the area in English would have been helpful. I don't mean the English Breakfast and Fish and Chips scenario but just info on where the local shop was would have avoided us going miles just to get supplies.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

I think their eco policies are sound and they work hard at implementing and promoting eco / sustainability ethos. We were a bit disappointed that it was difficult to walk with our dog in the local area (not the owners fault) but absolutely everywhere around the farm people had dogs kept appallingly so you couldn't walk without being charged at by large ostensibly, guard dogs. The local off road walk which was on a map was impossible to find due to no signposts. So we were a bit disappointed * But the owners are working hard at there project *** so......
