Valencia hotel with pool, Spain
How this holiday makes a difference
Environment
This holiday will help to protect the environment by encouraging the use of the public metro system or bicycles to travel in to and to view the city. Bicycle hire information will be provided at the welcome meeting. The buses used for the city's bus tours use biodiesel fuel. We will collect people on the Pilates break in a full car whenever possible to limit trips & so petrol consumption. We also encourage clients to fly to Valencia rather than Alicante, therefore reducing the need for a 2 hour journey & the associated petrol consumption necessary with that journey. Valencia is also closer to the U.K than Alicante, so is reducing the pollution caused by a longer time in the air. The Pilates teacher will walk to the hotel whenever possible where she will teach the Pilates classes. The hotel's pool it kept clean & full all year round, so not having to re-fill in the spring, thus saving water. The pool is also situated in a sunny area of the garden to allow for maximal thermal gain. So in the summer months it is not necessary to heat the pool, so reducing the consumption of electricity.
Recycling is taken seriously. Most plastics, paper, glass are recycled in the hotel via separated bins in the kitchen. Tetra packs for milk and juice cartons can also be recycled in Spain. The hotel owners try to use suppliers who reduce the amount of packaging needed and also try to use local supliers.Guests are also encouraged to separate & recycle any waste.
Community
We will support local tourism by informing our clients about local restaurants in nearby Heron city or places we can recommend within the city. We can recommend where to find beach-side restaurants that serve seafood caught fresh form the nearby Mediterrenean. Also, where to go to start tours of the city's attractions or other trips available to the protected wetlands of the nearby Albufera, where there is an abundance of bird life and the city's rice growing region.
In our Welcome meeting . we will explain the Spanish culture and offer helpful words and phrases. We will be also be reachable via the telephone if needed.
We will also recommend and explain how to visit Valencia's attractions. Art galleries such as the IVAM( modern art) & the Belles Artes( fine art). Cultural events such as: Las Fallas and the procession to put flowers on the massive outline of Mary in March & the Tomatina in Bunol in August. Museums, such as the Rice Museum, the Fallas model museum, the Valencia city museum. Buildings of architectual interest- such at the cathedral, the Central Market, the Silk Exchange, the Old post office , Town hall and the Serranos and Quart towers and the remains of the old Roman city wall.Other more modern architecture is seen in the amazing city of Arts & Sciences, situated between the historic old town and the sea.
Also, to explain the locally grown or produced products ; for example ; rice grown on the local wetlands, Horchata- a medicinal drink made from the locally grown chufa nut,and fartons- a sweet bread made locally. We can even provide recipes to take home for the famous Valencian Paella. We encourage guests to visit the Central Market in the city. Not only is it a beautiful building but it sells locally grown fruit & vegetable produce plus fresh seafood & meat products.
Water is conserved by the use of the latest modern toilet cisterns which use much less water than the older styled ones. Staff are all local residents in spain.
